# 8. Task and effort log

Use these eight references alongside the chapters. Copy the fields you need into your own record and keep one working version of that record. A reference card can remind you what to check; completing its fields does not prove that the answer is correct. Examples below are author-written practice material unless explicitly linked to the dated observations in Day 28.

Record the useful endpoint before starting. Without it, the time at which an answer appears can become a misleading finish line. An invitation that still invents a booking condition is not finished simply because the paragraph is on screen.

**Task record:** Date; selected method or tool; definition of finished; information excluded; checks required; source and output locations; final decision.

Add the active stages without counting the same period twice. Record elapsed time, including waiting, separately. If work remains unfinished at the end of a chosen time limit, say what remains. The two-hour challenge earlier in the course is a limit for observation, not a promised saving or a requirement to keep working past a useful stopping point.

For comparison without AI, record the baseline active effort and its basis: a measured comparable task, a recalled estimate, or unavailable. Describe differences in scope and quality. An unchecked draft and a verified final result do not provide matching endpoints. Repeating a task can also change your familiarity with it, which limits what a faster second attempt proves.

When both totals are meaningful and comparable, active-time difference equals baseline active effort minus assisted active effort. A negative difference means the assisted method took more active time. Missing measurements do not become zero. Do not calculate a saving when the necessary comparison is absent.

Here is invented arithmetic for checking the form, not a measured result. Preparation takes 6 minutes, prompting 4, verification 9, correction 7, and finalization 4. Active effort totals 30 minutes. If a comparable measured manual active-effort baseline were 24 minutes, the difference would be minus 6 minutes. Waiting recorded within an elapsed total would not be added again to the active total.

At your review point, complete the result record: my task; first result; what the assistant missed; what I changed; what I verified; what I will reuse; what remains unresolved. End with use, revise, defer, or reject and a reason. A disappointing attempt still contributes evidence about which work deserves another trial.
